gitignores has a medium complex syntax requiring to write a parser. There are ton's of writers for that format, but it's hard to find a reliable reader. We either ignore part of its complexity and take out what we can, or wait for someone to implement an external library.
Some of them send each file to git to see if it would be ignored. That's not a good solution.
