If you are running 32 bit python on windows, while on 64 bit windows, your code will happily select the correct dll file to load, but python will 'helpfully' see that it's 64 bit windows, and generate 8 byte large pointers.
For me, I didn't bother and just reinstalled python, just throwing it out there :).
