Question: Is it possible to change the root view controller if running on iPhone?

As of now , I have 2 story boards. I would really love to use a unified storyboard, but not sure it is possible in my case. Hopefully you can advise.
On iPad I am using a split view controller as the container and root
On iPhone I am using a "view deck" https://github.com/Inferis/ViewDeck as a container.

Is it possible to create one storyboard in this case?
