Rename variables with prefixes my_ to be more descriptive.

E.g.

  • my_data
  • my_cycle
  • my_barcode

this is usually my hack to avoid name clash. can you add some more context for each?

can you put the surrounding code for each in this issue so we can discuss what the names should be based on that?
