2.17.0-rev.2a0787e8 Pre-release
Pre-release

Another pre-release, this one adds a rather extensive update of the new auto-completion feature which premiered in 2.17.0-rev.e19e361e, please check MR 837 and the new Auto-Completion section in the "Meet the Cat" tutorial for details.

Please also check the wiki for installation instructions. As usual, Mac and Windows packages can be downloaded below. Linux packages for a variety of popular Linux distributions can be found in the JGU repositories on the OBS. Download

Update Dec 2022: Added the latest Intel Mac build from rev. 786f961. This has no functional changes, but has been built from the latest source and, notably, includes a pd-lua version linked against Lua 5.4 (like the Windows builds already have). Make sure to get this version if you want to use externals compiled against that Lua version.

Pre-release

This is a preview release with the latest changes, including some bugfixes and improvements in the fluid~ external.

Please check the wiki for installation instructions. Linux packages for a variety of popular Linux distributions can be found in the JGU repositories on the OBS (please note the URL change, we recently updated our OBS repositories). Download

Mac and Windows packages can be downloaded below. These are zip files that you need to unpack to obtain the Mac disk image (dmg) and Windows setup (exe) files which are then used to install the software in the usual way. Note: The ming64 packages are for 64 bit Windows systems, while the mingw32 packages contain 32 bit binaries which will also work on older hardware. For OSX we currently provide Intel 64 bit packages only; if you have any of the new Apple silicon Macs then you'll have to build Purr Data from source.)

This is a preview release with some of the latest goodies from this years' Google Summer of Code (GSoC), as well as a few of my own Windows-related bugfixes from MR 810. Most notably, it features Gabriela Bittencourt's latest and greatest work on the help browser (clickable related objects links in the search results) from MR 798 and her awesome new autocomplete feature from MR 808.

NB: As these are still brand-new, they have not been documented yet and still need testing, so please expect some rough edges and report any bugs that you find! Also note that the autocomplete feature is currently disabled by default, so you first need to enable it in the GUI preferences if you want to try it.

ChangeLog:

  • incremental search in the help browser (Gabriela Bittencourt)
  • new declare -zoom option, useful for teaching (AG)
  • pddplink now accepts a symbol on its 1st inlet, looses its superfluous outlet (AG)
  • major cleanup of the GUI presets, especially the dark ones work much better now (JW)
  • arm64 support for the OBS Debian/Ubuntu builds (AG)

Linux users: Please check the JGU repositories on the OBS which offer Linux packages for a variety of different systems (Arch, Debian/Raspbian/Ubuntu, openSUSE).

Mac users: The dmg packages are for 64 bit Intel Macs only. Get the OSX10.11 package if you're running a recent MacOS version (OSX 10.11 or later). Try the OSX10.8 package for older Mac systems.

Windows users: The exe installers should work on any recent Windows version (Windows 7 or later). Get the WIN64 package for 64 bit Windows systems, WIN32 for older Windows systems which are still 32 bit. (When in doubt, just use the WIN32 package, it will also work on 64 bit Windows systems.)

This is a preview release which includes the snap-to-grid option from MR 597. This feature replaces the edit mode grid introduced in 2.14.1. It is still somewhat experimental and may produce varying results at higher zoom levels due to a nw.js bug. Note that you can change the grid size or disable this option in the GUI preferences.

2.15.3rc Pre-release
Pre-release

Caveat: Please note that this is a snapshot of a development branch, and most likely not anything like the actual 2.15.3 release. It may still contain bugs and shouldn't be considered production-ready. Also note that while this has been labeled as 2.15.3rc, it identifies itself as "Purr Data 2.15.2-20201015-rev.bd6f44e4".

This snapshot has been built from rev. bd6f44e and contains some of Ico's experimental bugfixes and changes which still need some testing, specifically MR 579, 587, and 590.

New features

  • Enabled visual feedback when clicking on the empty symbol gatom to edit its value. (Ico)
  • Substantial overhaul of fluid~ to make it work better. (AG)

Detailed list of fluid~ fixes and improvements:

  • Soundfonts are now searched for on the canvas and library path.
  • Optional support for the SMMF MIDI message format which lets you send all types of voice messages to fluidsynth, as well as sysex messages. The latter is useful to retune the synth to different temperaments using MTS (MIDI Tuning Standard) messages. • Also fixed a memory leak and a minor issue with program numbers not being translated correctly.
