CTU Thesis Cover Design prepared in Scribus

Example of a thesis using this

How to use:

  1. Download and install Scribus version >= 1.5.5 https://www.scribus.net/downloads/unstable-branch/
  2. Open the .sla file in Scribus
  3. Edit the text (by double clicking on it)
  4. Center the center text on the spine
    1. Select all three text frames on the spine by shift + click
    2. Activate "Windows"->"Align and distibute" window
    3. In "Distribute" tab select "Make vertical gaps between items equal"
  5. Change the background color
    1. Add the desired color in "Edit"->"Colors and fills" (use CMYK)
      CTU Visual identity manual recommends blue for bachelor's thesis, grey for master's thesis and green for dissertation
    2. Activate "Windows"->"Properties" (F2)
    3. Select the background polygon (click on it)
    4. Change the fill color in "Properties"->"Colors" ("Fill" tab)
  6. If your spine thickness is larger than 4 mm you have to
    1. Change the page width to 420 + spine thickness
    2. Change the background polygon width appropriately
    3. Move the spine text, so that it is horizontally centered
    4. Move the front page text and symbol, so that the symbol is horizontally centered on the front page
  7. Generate PDF for printing
    1. "File"->"Export"->"Save as PDF..."
    2. In "General"->"File Options"->"Compatibility" select PDF/X-3 (or whatever you want)
    3. You can select "Crop Marks" in "Pre Press"->"Printer Marks"
    4. Change filename
    5. Save
