This issue is to track the discussion around starting from existing resource, for example by introducing an extra screen in between the landing page and the start page, where we ask the user about other sources of data that they may want to use as a starting point. This could be:

  1. their github / gitlab repo (use the GitHub/GitLab API)
  2. their github / gitlab repo that has a CITATION.cff in it
  3. a Zenodo DOI (use the Zenodo API)
  4. some other DOI (requires other APIs) See Fetch authors from DOI #19 (comment) for a snippet
  5. user supplied CITATION.cff file
