Projects formerly using the Xamarin project system will now use the same SDK Style common project system as other .NET workloads. Developers will be able to use Visual Studio and Visual Studio for Mac common features such as multi-targeting and debugging on emulator and device. Developers will be able to use the .NET CLI to install SDKs and create new projects.

o Build on Microsoft Extensions (hosting/DI/services/settings/logging) patterns to be more consistent with the ASP.NET core experience M P1
o Common .NET commands (ie: run, publish) are available to Xamarin developers in .NET 6 (done) M P0 75%

Xamarin-Tools comments...

the Xamarin Profiler is probably not a .NET 6 deliverable, perhaps stretch goal... it would be consistent with the goal of "common developer experiences".

Templates should probably be included with the SDKs, to support dotnet new scenarios. Need to discuss further with Maddy, David, Jon Dick and others. Likely some work for Xamarin Tools team to fix the templates to be consistent with .NET projects (Joaquin has details).

dotnet commands on windows aren't entirely working yet for iOS... Ema has more details and work items.
