If you're too old to have experienced/observed the phenomena that is kids watching Twitch Streams
of other Gamers playing a new game or their favourite game, then this might not make sense to you ... 👴
But the best way to describe the "Feature Tour" is a "Let's Play" or "Walkthrough". 🎮

Video Walkthrough with Voiceover of a Feature

The fastest way of discovering how an App works is to watch a video.
A video that you can watch in your own time, at any speed, pause, rewind, scrub or dismiss.

This isn't new. Several of the most successful Apps you may have heard of have walkthroughs:
https://www.wyzowl.com/walkthrough-examples/

All I'm proposing is the following:

  • initially we record portrait mode/orientation video of ourselves using the App, host the video on a platform that supports portrait mode and embedding into a WebView and test/track if anyone clicks on Feature Tour.

  • At the end of the video we ask people for feedback.
if they dismiss the feedback request and don't perform any other action in the App,
then we know that the Feature Tour isn't valuable to them.

if after watching the Feature Tour they immediately go on to use a new feature in the App,
then we know that it's useful and we can continue doing more Feature Tours.

if it turns out that people love the Feature Tour
then we can take it up a level: specifically we can deeply integrate the Tour into the App. #295
We can revisit this idea later. Let's just try the Video Walkthrough for now as it's the "MVP" of this.

Todo

  • Once we have the "First 5 Levels" of the App built in their simplest form:

  • Record a portrait/vertical mode video of ourselves using the App
inputting real-looking data and including Auth.

  • Edit it down so that it's a tight as possible.

  • Record a voice over with studio quality microphones ideally someone who has a great voice @iteles 🙏

  • This "Feature Tour" Video will be on the Home/Landing Page of dwyl.com.

It's the single fastest way people can get to know how our App works and what it can do for them.
