It'd be helpful to show a "draft" icon in the sidebar if I have written something (whitespace-trimmed) into the composer, so i know I have an unfinished message in that room.

Sounds like a good idea. I think we should add the label "X-Needs-Design" to this ticket (and work it with the X #14181).
