Question: PHP runtime requirements or CLI options?

Before using this module to allocate about 900 pupils into roughly 40 different groups I wondered if
a) there are any necessary or recommended settings for php.ini
b) ways to run the scripts in this module from CLI if needed
... but I wasn't able to find anything.

Could someone of knowledge please shine some light on the path?
