Microsoft PowerToys version

0.49.1

Running as admin

  • Yes

Area(s) with issue?

General, Awake, ColorPicker, FancyZones, FancyZones Editor, Image Resizer, Keyboard Manager, MD Preview, Mouse Utilities, PDF Preview, PDF Thumbnail, PowerRename, PowerToys Run, Shortcut Guide, SVG Preview, SVG Thumbnail, Settings, Video Conference Mute, Welcome / PowerToys Tour window, System tray interaction

Steps to reproduce

Install power toys set as admin, startup with windows is on.

On a laptop with Nvidia Optimus technology, go to Nvidia control panel>dektop tab>show display switch notifications. Try to launch a game... an error notification will pop up saying "display switch failed".

Now close power toys and retry launching the game, the GPU should now switch without any trouble.

✔️ Expected Behavior

To not interfere with Nvidia advanced Optimus display switching mechanism

❌ Actual Behavior

It prevented a display switch and caused me hours of frustration and troubleshooting.

Other Software

Nvidia Control Panel 8.1.961.0 (latest at the time)

Nvidia Driver version 496.76 (latest at the time)

Nvidia advanced Optimus
