An extension author can enable sponsoring by providing the sponsor URL in the extension's package.json and VS Code will allow users to sponsor to that extension.

  • Use latest vsce and publish some sample extension. Make sure you set the sponsor property to an URL from where users can sponsor your extension Eg: https://github.com/sponsors/nvaccess.
  • Open extensions view in VS Code insiders and browse for above extension you published
  • Open the extension and make sure sponsor button is shown
  • Make sure clicking on the sponsor button opens the sponsor link.
