If you set this up, people would be able to then... Creating a repository from a template . The main impact of this would be that users don't have to think about making some choices:

• fork and have the histories tied (also show forked from)
• manually create a repository, and change the upstreams to point at the new repository
• manually create a repository, and empty out the history before pushing up.

Possible downsides:

• not sure what the workflow to update from the boiler plate is would look like
