Set NODIST_PREFIX environment variable error even when set already

I have NODIST_PREFIX set as a system environment variable with the correct value to the nodist directory however it is still returning this error; Please set the path to the nodist directory in the NODIST_PREFIX environment variable.

This is when I run anything to do with firebase. I'm not sure if its something specific to that but that is my situation. I have tried uninstalling and installing nodist but the error still persists.
