I'm only bumping this so that there's a not-read-only place for future people wondering about such functionality to find and voice their support. Last word was (July 2018) that this is ‘in our roadmap’ but behind many other things; here's hoping it makes it to the front of the queue at some point.

Now that npm Inc. is being purchased by GitHub, I'm anxious that this will never come to pass—why would GitHub/Microsoft want to do anything to support a competitor?

It would certainly go a long way for me personally in terms of believing in Microsoft's/GitHub's/npm's commitment to the ideals of open source if it happened anyway. I hope there's still a chance of that outcome.

npm v6 is no longer in active development; We will continue to push security releases to v6 at our team's discretion as-per our Support Policy.

If your bug is preproducible on v7, please re-file this issue using our new issue template.

If your issue was a feature request, please consider opening a new RRFC or RFC. If your issue was a question or other idea that was not CLI-specific, consider opening a discussion on our feedback repo
