What version of Bun is running?

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 22.5.0 arm64 arm

What steps can reproduce the bug?

In a new project
bun init
bun add konva canvas

// ./src/index.ts

const stage = new Konva.Stage({

stage.add(layer);

var box = new Konva.Rect({

I'm thinking this has to do something with canvas not being installed properly?

What is the expected behavior?

Being able to log the dataURI succesfully

What do you see instead?

error: Cannot find module "../build/Release/canvas.node" from "/Users/nooblyf/github.com/projects/hello-bun/node_modules/canvas/lib/bindings.js"

With node/npm I often see something like this as well, and in that case the solution is to rebuild the library. This section of MapLibre GL JS contribution guidelines explains it well:

Apple silicon If you have one of the newer arm64 machines, you might find that canvas.node or webgl.node can't be found for your architecture. In that case go to node_modules/canvas and node_modules/gl and run:

npm install --build-from-source

So if you go to node_modules/canvas and run bun install --build-from-source, then canvas can be found. I do though with your reproduction then receive: (bun version 0.8.0+52802a4c556d7498d75d00e4fe4e45633f4283e8)

~~You can go into node_modules/canvas and then do bun run install to run install script, it should solve this issue~~

edit: it relies on V8 so it won't work but by 1.0 it should be solved

yes, v8 is engine but bun is running on WebKit so we must do polyfill

This will fix canvas whenever it gets pushed, which should be pretty soon.

Looks like with Automattic/node-canvas#2235 merged, I am still encountering the same error.

EDIT: Using @napi-rs/canvas is a great alternative. Basically the same thing.
