[Feature Request] Windows 11-like zones #1353
Comments
I haven't used Windows 11 yet, but I renamed the issue title to something marginally more descriptive. Is what you're requesting different from what has been requested in #1057? |
Can you include a video or GIF of the feature you want? I'm not a developer, but I think you'll have a better chance having your request if we know what you're talking about if we're not up to date on windows updates and don't want to be hunting for the info. |
No videos, but some images: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/powertoys/fancyzones I haven't run windows 11, but I believe that they took the same behaviour for it. Until I switched to pop_os, I used this in combination with TidyTabs, and it was actually really good. I particularly liked having a zone in the top left of my screen that if you put a browser window in it, would give a viewport that was the same as a 1080p screen. Then I'd have the remaining top right for my meeting screen and various zones in the bottom for reference. Once set, you can switch between zone layouts (I had layouts for programming, gaming, web browsing and meetings) with a keypress, but you don't really reconfigure the zones on the fly. For my workflow it was just about perfect (although I wish it had good tabbing built in, the interaction with TidyTabs wasn't 100%). Pop shell is genuinely better at some things, but I do miss the fancyzones behaviour. The right click while dragging to ignore the zones was a surprisingly intuitive interaction too. |

I do not like windows, but windows 11 window manager is pretty good, especially on wide screens. I would like to be able to set up zones, and drag windows to zones and have them snap to size.
