Should we add email address to the author spec?

ORCID would be preferred, but not everyone has an ORCID...

Hmm... I'm somewhat opposed to this, since we want to encourage people to sign up for ORCID—it's a permanent, unique identifier.

Email is not permanent, unlike nearly all (if not all) other data that's included in the record.

I agree 100%.

To play devil's advocate, the process ChemKED->email->answer is easier than ChemKED->ORCID->email->answer if you have a question for the author. In other words, it would be a user friendly change to allow the inclusion of email address, even if its a database unfriendly change.

Hopefully we can get some community feedback on this (we are supposed to be a community effort, after all 😄)
