It is my understanding that - at least for the moment - pytype is not maintained anymore. This means that potential issues in pytype - like the one in #11957 (comment) won't get fixed. I suggest to remove the pytype tests and pytype compatibility guarantees, until this situation changes.

I heard that pytype should still get maintained in the future by a new team, but we'll have to see how that works out in practice.

@rchen152, do you have opinions on what typeshed should do here?

For the record, pytype is not unmaintained. We just need a little time to sort out the details.
