Linux command xclip is not installed by default on all distributions (it wasn't on mine).

Once installed, it turned out that simply replacing pbpaste with xclip does not work.

You need to specify xclip -o to make it paste to stdout.

On Linux systems using Wayland instead of X11, the wl-paste tool provides similar functionality.

On Debian-based distros, it is available in the wl-clipboard package.
