Prerequisites

  • I verified that this is not a filter list issue. Report any issues with filter lists or broken website functionality in the uAssets issue tracker.
  • I performed a cursory search of the issue tracker to avoid opening a duplicate issue.
  • The issue is not present after disabling uBO in the browser.
  • I checked the documentation to understand that the issue I am reporting is not normal behavior.

I tried to reproduce the issue when...

  • uBO is the only extension.
  • using a new, unmodified browser profile.

Description

When opening a local PDF file from File Explorer with Microsoft Edge when Microsoft Edge is closed, it opens and then crashes. If Microsoft Edge open already the PDF works. The current bypass is to add 'file-scheme' to the Trusted sites list to stop uBlock from scanning the PDF when opening Microsoft Edge.

As far I know browser crashes are a browser's issue : #2851 (comment) ==> uBlockOrigin/uAssets#16613 (comment)
Also looking in internet for term : "Edge crashes pdf", indicates it's a known Edge's issue.

Also uBO isn't supposed to work on file URLs by default

Having this issue org wide. Only fix was to whitelist "file-scheme" which makes me think it is something still having to do with ublock in some aspect.

As soon as I whitelist that, all the PDF's open without issue.

Browser crashes have to be reported to browser devs. uBO is HTML/CSS/JS, it's not supposed to crash the browser, the same way a webpage is not supposed to crash the browser, and if it were, it's a browser issue.
