Is your suggestion for improvement related to a problem? Please describe.

Under Options → Preferences → General, there is a preference “Default bibliography mode”:

However, it’s unclear what the effect of this setting is (if any). When creating a library, one of the two (BibTeX, biblatex) must be chosen anyway, so the setting seems redundant. But the phrase “bibliography mode” is unclear, so perhaps it doesn’t even refer to libraries.

Describe the solution you'd like

The preference “Default bibliography mode” should probably either be documented (including adding an “Online help” button next to it in the preferences), renamed (e. g. “Default library type” if it does, in fact, refer to libraries), or removed (if it has no effect in the first place).

Hello, I feel that I can handle this possibly. I will try to write a reasonale description for this ^_^

Hi, after investigating this issue. I found some confusing thing. After I set the "default bibliography mode" to biblatex in the preference dialog, I create a new library whose library mode in the library property is still BibTex. Did I misunderstand something?

Followings are related screenshots:

If I don't misunderstand anything, I think the related setting in the dialog should be removed? I will appreciate it very much if you could give me some guidances ^_^ @Siedlerchr

@LuckyOne09 It's a bit confusing indeed.
Historically, in older JabRef versions there was only one option "New library" with the "global" default mode you selected in the settings.
Default biblatex -> New library would have created biblatex library.
Default BibTeX-> New library would have created bibtex library.

At some point in history this has been changed to have both options in the menu.
And you can always change your library mode afterwards in the library properties
Theoretically it could be removed, but I am not sure, if this setting has an influence on the "import into new library" function or the Tools-> New library from aux file.
It would be nice if you could investigate if this setting (stored somewhere in the JabRefPreferences) is used at other places

Thanks to @LuckyOne09 and @calixtus this issue is now fixed.
The new library is now dependenent on the confgured library mode in the preferences.
We also renamed the bibliopgraphy mode to library mode
