Why did you decide to use the JNI?

long term goal is to produce code which could be included in the standard jdk distribution;

specifically:

udt c++ is a reference implementation for upcoming IETF UDT standard
need for consistent multi arch/os binaries tested along with java
need to patch udt c++ to be more java like or work around bugs
