Sandbox proposal for metal3-io #408
Conversation
This PR includes a CNCF Sandbox proposal for the Metal3 project (https://metal3.io). This project explores how to apply cloud native design principles to the provisioning and management of bare metal hosts. The proposal document contains much more detail about the state of the project.
I created this based on the existing sandbox proposals in the repo. I'm also aware of the template under review in #361. I'm happy to adapt this to the template once that is merged if needed. |
Isn't metal3 dependent on Openstack-Ironic? |
Yes, it does make use of Ironic (Apache licensed). It's hidden as an implementation detail to allow the integration of alternatives. This has been explored some, though none completed and merged at this point. There's more discussion about the original choice to re-use Ironic here: https://github.com/metal3-io/metal3-docs/blob/master/design/use-ironic.md |

Thank you @russellb . Superficially this looks like a very interesting sandbox project. It would be great if you could give a presentation to the folks over at cncf-sig-runtime . @raravena80 can help to get that scheduled for you. |
I'd love to give a presentation. @raravena80 feel free to reach out to be directly for scheduling (rbryant@redhat.com) |
@russellb I just sent you an email. Either the next or following SIG-Runtime meeting works. Thx. |
Scheduled for April 16, 11am Eastern. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1k7VNetgbuDNyIs_87GLQRH2W5SLgjgOhB6pDyv89MYk/edit# |
Link to the public Sandbox review doc: https://bit.ly/metal3-sandbox-review |
@amye looks like the SIG has reviewed and provided a recommendation. What are the next steps? |
Moved to TOC review. |
@erinaboyd @amye I shared the doc publicly for transparency/awareness (as I stated in the last TOC meeting 😄). I'm still looking to confirm review from other SIG-Chairs/Tech-leads (Made a note in the doc) |
@erinaboyd @amye. This is ready for TOC review. I've moved the review doc to github |
In the 6/23 TOC meeting to review sandbox projects, the TOC did not include this project in the sandbox. I will leave this PR open and watch for an application in. |
@russellb please review recent comments |
Addressing that here: metal3-io/metal3-docs#108 We hadn't done this yet because we assumed we'd be adopting the CNCF CoC if the sandbox proposal was approved.
This exists, just spread out across different resources (design docs, open github issues and PRs). We're working on a centralized reference that points to the different sources of roadmap content.
Thanks, I'll fill out the form once the above two items are complete soon. |
Super, thank you @russellb! |
Code of conduct is here: https://github.com/metal3-io/metal3-docs/blob/master/CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md and the roadmap: https://github.com/metal3-io/metal3-docs/blob/master/processes/roadmap.md |
@amye form submitted. |
@amye anything else needed from us? |
Sandbox applications will be reviewed in the September 8th closed TOC meeting. |
