These instructions are maybe misleading. Shahan was confident that it's basically impossible to build a full node from scratch today. Is it worth giving these instructions at all if in fact you need a snapshot?

Why can't you use cosmovisor to handle making a full node from hub-4 as the start point?

The hub upgrade didn't include the metadata for auto-binary downloading, but a script can be used to generate the initial upgrades folder

it's tru you can use cosmovisor. During the upgrade we weren't comfortable promoting it as the default upgrade method since there wasn't a feature for backing up your node but it's being tracked here now.

I could look into the script that's needed but I'm afraid that it's moot if it's not possible to sync from genesis of cocmoshub-4 anyway. I haven't found anyone who's been able to successfully sync in the last 6 months.

You should be able to sync from genesis using cosmovisor (assuming nodes are around to serve the data).
