Improve workflow for drill-down from chart to individual documents #10057
Comments
could this serve as a work around ?
this is not entirely the case as mentioned in #9148, but this would be one good example why that is actually good. |
In most cases, I feel as if the metrics provided in a visualization/dashboard are normally aggregations (outside of a data table) - unless you are in a very specific timeframe. The workflow still applies, but I feel as if it's a little more work to get a single document. I had some thoughts on the matter. If we utilize some of the work that @stacey-gammon has been doing with view/edit modes in dashboards (#9508), we have some additional "white space" in a dashboard visualization. I believe there will no longer be edit icons in a dashboard when in view mode. We could use this available space for a number actionable buttons. One of which could be a discover button that immediately loads a set of pinned filters from the filtered/non-filtered visualization in the discovery view. Essentially - drilling down into a specific or set of documents. The clickhandler would still filter on charts allowing you to slice and dice your data appropriately. So rather than clicking to drill down into a document, you are instead filtering for the specific document and switching views quickly. If we ended up going down this route, we could also allow users to add their own "action buttons" that can be customized to take actions specific to that visualization when in a dashboard. These are just some initial thoughts that I wanted to jot down. Happy to discuss in further detail. I'll be doing some additional competitive research on similar workflows as well. |
After discussing in the team meeting, we decided to treat this as more of an adjustment to workflow, as this is possible today per this comment #10057 (comment) As mentioned above, currently clicking on charts filters, so we need to figure out other controls. We should also consider other types of actions user may want to do in the future on click, such as drill down to other dashboards: #4439 |
This has been created as part of the drilldown effort. |
Describe the feature:
It would be useful to be able to drill-down on chart data points to view the individual documents (in their entirety) that contributed to that data point.
