Beverages are an essential aspect of our lives. However, the plastic and paper cups used to hold beverages are taking a toll on the environment. These cups are non-biodegradable and non-recyclable. As such, these materials pile up in our landfills where incineration emits harmful gases to the environment.
We want to make use of collapsible cups to emphasise the idea of “Bring Your Own Cup”, hence, reducing plastic waste. However, despite the benefits of using collapsible cups, the idea of using them is still not well-integrated into our daily lives. The probable reason behind this is the additional effort required to pack collapsible cups, the hassle to cleanse the cup after every usage and the inaccessibility to obtain a cup.
Therefore, our approach is to set up stations containing collapsible cups around the school campus. Users are able to rent collapsible cups from these stations via an app and indicate the period of rental. Upon renting a cup, users can collect it from any station and carry it around the campus. When the period of rental finishes, users shall return the rented cup. These stations provide washing and maintenance for the collapsible cups.
