Reduce Data and optimisation?

Hi All,

Thank you very much for that great tool! I love controlling my Vaillant gas heating with it!

First, here is my setup:

• eBUS Adapter Shield C6
• Raspberry Pi 4
• Home Assistant as Docker image (not possible to run as HA OS for another reason)
• ebusd as Docker image with the following compose file:

Now the questions:

1. I run ebusd over Wi-Fi. Is it better to run it over USB? The adapter is connected over USB to the Raspberry Pi, so that should not be the problem.

2. When I run it over USB, it does not load the configs over the Internet, right?

3. When you look at the commands, I don’t pass a path to the config files. This means that these files are loaded over the Internet, right? In this case, it might be better to download them and use them locally, I think. Because what happens if there is no Internet connection?

4. I get over 600 entities in Home Assistant with this configuration. Most of them I don’t need. Maybe only 10 are in use. Would it be better to create the sensors in Home Assistant by myself? In this case, I would need to remove mqttint=/etc/ebusd/mqtt-hassio.cfg, right?

5. On the other hand, is it not better to modify the CSV config files and delete all sensors that are not needed and leave auto-discovery in Home Assistant? Or should I do both (reduce the CSV and remove mqttint=/etc/ebusd/mqtt-hassio.cfg)?

1. It is on you, but for latency it is USB better, that is only one benefit from my point of view.
2. No, config is loaded by ebusd docker container not adapter it self, so if ebusd deamon has internet connection it could load configs from internet.
3. Yes, it is loaded only once when it start ebusd container and stored localy. So you need connection only in time where you restart docker or updating it. You can reload config files from ebusd command line manually if it is necessary.
4. / 5. It is possible to modify mqtt-hassio.cfg to filter only requested entities. If you change local config files you got lot's of error about unknown messages. If you have lots of time, you can also create every sensor manually, but it should by revised after every update of adapter or ebusd deamon, because it could change in time.

In mqtt-hassio.cfg look for:

# HA integration: filter to some useful names for monitoring the heating circuit
filter-name = status|temp|yield|fuel|count|energy|power..

It is just for interest, don't need to actively translate them. In Pull Request waits some configuration files to accept with added some more values.

Becourse the filters. Can you show me a example? I need only the Device "700" and in it only some "senors".

Sorry I'm on opposite site, I comment all filters and let everything into HA where I use only interest sensors in dashboard. But from time to time I check also other values if is there something wrong or if it indicates incorrect behavior of my heating system.
