MoveToVLC

In winter 2021, I wanted to practice using using Next.js and Typescript. I am one of the administrators of a digital nomads community of almost 3000 members in Valencia, Spain and one of the biggest concerns of the members that came up again and again was immigration. For people from the EU the process is pretty simple. But for people from the US, UK or Rest of World things aren't always as simple.

So I called up some of my friends who were lawyers and asked them if they would be willing to give below-market-rate consultations on immigration if they could get some information up-front to make the consultation more efficient. I was inspired by the productization model used by Pieter Levels at Rebase and wanted to do something like that.

I launched it in the community and got good feedback on the design of the site, plus the information it contains BUT immigration law is trickier than I expected! Once I actually started to talk with the users, it became clear that there were too many edge cases, loop holes and different tax consideration to make this a viable 'product', and I have no interest in running a law office.

So I left the website up for informational purposes. Feel free to check it out here and test the checkout flow. I have deployed with the Stripe test keys so you will not be charged for your 'purchase'. Just enter the credit card number 4242 4242 4242 4242 and any other valid details and your 'purchase' will go through.

Enjoy 🥳!
