Overview

The dance floor is powered by one 5V/40A power supply and two 12V/40A power supplies.

Power supply

Enclosed 120VAC to DC switching power power supplies are used (for example this Mean Well 360W supply

The maximum peak power draw from the 12V lights in each square will be around 1A so around 64A for the entire floor. Actual peak power is expected to be about 50% of that. Two 12V / 30A power supplies will be used.

Peak power from the 5V electronics has not been calculated but expected to be below 300mA per square so below 20A total..

Cables

A three conductor set of 18 AWG wire runs through each row of 8 squares and connects to two trunks of 14 AWG wire for power transmission of 5V and 12V. 14 AWG wire can safely carry 32A max, so one trunk for each 12V power supply is used. Each trunk will connect four rows of squares, or 32 squares.

A second set of 5 conductor 26 AWG wire daisy chains to each square to carry data to and from each square to the main controller.
