PR Summary:
This PR removes the unnecessary preconnect to Shopify's CDN domain. Stores are being migrated to serve their assets from the main domain and all the others benefit from the preconnect inside the
Linkheader in the main HTML response.Why are these changes introduced?
Before the browser is able to download any files from the external domain, it has to spend some extra time to set up the connection and make it secure. Adding a preconnect is a correct way of making sure those connections are ready even before the HTML parser encounters any of the critical files.
Some time ago, we made an improvement that added the preconnect as a
Linkheader inside the main document response, which meant it wouldn't have to wait for the HTML version to arrive and could benefit from Early Hints. This makes the preconnect in the HTML redundant.With yesterday's announcement about assets starting to be served from the main store domain it becomes even more unnecessary as the store may have no resources coming from
cdn.shopify.com.What approach did you take?
I removed the unnecessary preconnect from the main layout file.
