LevelEditor Design View
LevelEditor Design View

The LevelEditor's Design View displays a graphic representation of the game world. It is the main layout and construction zone for building a level. Using the Design View, you can add game objects to the level, examine the level from different directions and distances, and arrange game objects.

LevelEditor Design View - Quad View
LevelEditor Design View - Four Different Views

The central pane of the Design View shows the game objects and scenery of a level. You can split the Design View into one, two, or four independent views of the world. By default, a level is displayed using a three-dimensional perspective view. You can specify the following views (called projections) for the game world within the Design View: perspective, top, bottom, right, left, front, and back.

The screenshot shows four views of the Basic sample level: perspective, front, top, and right.

LevelEditor Design View - Zoom
LevelEditor Design View - Zooming the World

Within a particular view, you can zoom in or change the camera angle, so that you can see any part of the game world, from up close or from far away. The LevelEditor has several modes that let you use the mouse (or other pointing device) to zoom, rotate, and pan your view of the world.

The screenshot shows four different zoom levels of the Lunch bookmark view within the Basic sample level. The first zoom level is the default bookmark view; each of the other zoom levels shows increasingly more of the world as the camera zooms out.

LevelEditor Design View - Rotate and Pan
LevelEditor Design View - Rotating and Panning the World

While in perspective view, you can rotate the view of the game world and pan the view of the game world.

The screenshot shows shows four different rotation and pan views (with some zoom changes) of the Airfield bookmark within the Basic sample level. The upper-left image shows the default bookmark view of the airfield.

The LevelEditor's Resources List displays all of the assets in the ResourceRoot folder: its left pane displays a tree view of the contents of the Resource Root folder, and its right pane displays information about the current selection in the tree view. A resource is an external file created in an application other than the LevelEditor. Resources can provide geometries, behaviors, textures, and similar items. Only items in the ResourceRoot folder are available to the LevelEditor Resources List.
